Coaching For Nurses
Are You A Nurse Who Is Struggling At Work Or At Home?
Do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, unfulfilled, or otherwise unhappy with your job or your life? Have you been dealing with work-related challenges, such as:
-
Physical exhaustion?
-
Emotional fatigue?
-
Workplace trauma?
-
Low compensation?
-
Long or irregular hours?
-
A lack of resources and support?
Perhaps the specifics of your job became much more stressful during the pandemic, and you have been unable to practice proper self-care ever since. Or maybe your disillusionment has gradually developed over years or even decades and now you need to find some real relief.

Many Nurses Face High Rates Of Stress, Depression, And Burnout

You may have noticed a decreased ability to excel or even function in your job. Or maybe you have continued to perform well at work even as, on the inside, your mental health has gone downhill. At this point, you may even be questioning whether nursing is right for you or if you need a career change, which can prove stressful and overwhelming in and of itself.

We nurses are like soldiers. And like them, we also experience PTSD because of our jobs. We are expected to continue giving attention and care, even when our inner resources are depleted. And what’s more, we expect ourselves to continue through exhaustion or even the trauma of losing a patient. We are faced with a culture of needing to get the work done, no matter the cost.
Hello, I’m Michele Warren, and I understand. As a practicing nurse for more than 30 years, I know all too well the unique obstacles that nurses face every day—and I can teach you how to overcome some of these challenges moving forward. As a coach who specializes in working with nurses through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, I can help you cope and heal while rediscovering your spark and your love for the work.
All Nurses Face Challenges Related To Their Work
A nurse’s job is difficult by definition. Nurses experience stress, trauma, pain, and suffering every day through their patients, which can easily create feelings of helplessness or powerlessness. On top of this, most medical professionals—and especially nurses—have seen their stress levels at work greatly increase throughout the course of the pandemic.

In fact, according to the CDC, “22 percent of healthcare workers experienced moderate depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder” during the pandemic, with nurses reporting “more severe psychological symptoms than other health workers” (1). Unsurprisingly, though the pandemic has affected everyone, it has proven particularly tough on nurses.

Most Nurses Do Not Receive Enough Resources Or Support

The medical field and society as a whole tend to take nurses for granted—and this tendency long precedes the pandemic. Because nurses specifically occupy a caretaker role, their own needs typically get overlooked or ignored, which can lead to burnout and fatigue over time. In this way, nurses often lack not just material support but emotional support as well.

This is exactly the sort of emotional support that I can provide for you. Believe me: I’ve been there. I know how difficult it can be to take care of others while still caring for yourself and your family along the way. But you deserve the same compassion that you give your patients, and coaching can offer you that by helping you achieve balance both at work and in life.
Coaching Can Help Nurses Find Peace And Clarity
The vocation of nursing attracts a certain type of person—kind, caring, compassionate, empathetic—and yet these very attributes can prove a liability for new and even seasoned nurses. Because nurses care, the emotional demands of their jobs can exhaust them over time.

Coaching for nurses, though, can help you build toward a greater sense of organization, peace, and equanimity in your work and home life. Despite the challenges that you face every day, you deserve to feel confident in your ability to care for your patients and yourself.
What You Can Expect From Coaching Sessions
Before you begin sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to email me some more information about your background, your current situation, and your objectives for coaching. From there I will be able to build a more specific plan to help you achieve your goals.

During your actual coaching sessions, we will apply the IFS process to explore and resolve the issues that you are currently struggling with. IFS aims to help heal the wounded parts of yourself with care and compassion. By addressing negative emotions and experiences from your past, you can integrate them into a more coherent and confident present self.

A Coaching Approach That Will Get Results
As your coach, I will apply these therapeutic methods toward your issues and symptoms:
-
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) – IFS applies evidence-based methods in coaching the different parts of your personality toward a more unified and harmonious whole. IFS can be particularly effective in addressing trauma, anxiety, and other issues regularly experienced by nurses.
-
Stress-Reducing Guided Meditation – Meditation works to alleviate the physical, mental, and emotional stress experienced by nurses.
These complementary practices will help you both process any current trauma that you are dealing with at work while healing other past traumas that may be holding you back as well. Addressing and resolving these issues will also leave you better able to respond to and handle any new stressors that arise moving forward.

As a nurse, you need and deserve care too—and not only self-care but also the care of an empathetic coach who understands what nurses experience every single day. As someone who remembers what it’s like for nurses, I can provide you with the care that you need. In addition to the practical methods that we will apply, simply having someone who knows what you’re going through will help you feel seen, heard, and understood.
You May Still Have Some Questions About Coaching For Nurses…
I’m not convinced that coaching will help me.
In short, you’ll never know until you try it. For those on the fence, I typically advise clients to give themselves about a month of coaching sessions in order to fully explore the process. That will allow you to better decide whether to continue with coaching, depending on your progress.
I can’t get away from my responsibilities to my family.
This is understandable, but you’re really only able to take care of your family when you’re able to take care of yourself. And coaching can help you feel stronger, healthier, and happier, which will only allow you to better care for those around you.
I don’t have enough money to spend on my problems.
Coaching can positively impact your life by helping you better integrate all the different parts of it—work, home, and relationships. It’s difficult to imagine money better spent. Regardless, I also operate on a sliding scale for nurses—we can make it work!
