Internal Family Systems

What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS), also known as parts work, is a therapeutic approach for coaching that is  centered around understanding and working with the various aspects of our inner selves. These "parts" encompass our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. Some parts of us we hold in high esteem, while others carry painful emotions from past experiences, which we may attempt to bury to protect ourselves.

“IFS is a loving way of relating internally to your parts, and externally to the people in your life, so in that sense, IFS is a life practice as well”.

- Richard Schwartz, founder of Internal Family Systems and author of No Bad Parts

Have you ever encountered an experience so uncomfortable that you chose to pretend that it didn’t happen to avoid further hurt? These unresolved thoughts, feelings, and beliefs linger in our psyche, influencing how we perceive ourselves, other people, and the world around us. The idea is to help these different ones relate with our core, or our Self.

From this place of compassion and clarity, from our Self, our hurt parts can express what their experiences have been, and then healing begins. Internal Family Systems ultimately a way to, release any pain and false beliefs about ourselves, allowing for a clearer and harmonious flow in our lives.
